Hey there, Reader, When I recommend doing a task study, I usually tell people to choose an average week. Not the week you're launching something. Or traveling. Or dealing with some unusual situation that's throwing everything off. Just a normal week. There's one small problem with that advice. What if you don't have a normal week? In 2026, I find very few working moms have a consistent schedule or routine. Between my consulting business, my newly acquired membership, homeschooling, and helping organize a 5K/10K Zombie Run at Lily's high school, there's quite a bit competing for my attention. And next week might actually be lighter on client work than usual. Or not. I genuinely don't know. Maybe the unusual stuff isn't so unusual. It's easy to look at a busy week and tell yourself, "Things will settle down after this." After the launch. After the school event. After the client project wraps up. After whatever unexpected thing landed on your calendar yesterday. But what happens when there's always another after? I'm not suggesting every week is equally demanding. Some are objectively busier than others. The first week of every quarter is always sun-up to sundown for me. But I am questioning whether waiting for an average week is always useful. Especially when your business has to work alongside the rest of your life. That's what I want to find out.Starting Monday, October 26, I'll document what actually happens throughout my days. Not just business tasks. The homeschooling, volunteer commitments, interruptions, and transitions between responsibilities count, too. I'm not trying to prove I can handle it all or win the medal for marathon workdays. I'm looking for patterns that might help me make better decisions about what deserves my attention. And you're welcome to watch.
Because you're already a valued reader, that one click above is all it takes. I'll send you access to the live Google Doc when the study begins. No extra form. No homework. Nothing to submit. Maybe I'll discover that this week is completely unrepresentative of my usual life. Or maybe I'll discover that the constant shifting between responsibilities is the pattern. Either way, I'd rather know than guess. In your corner, Tonya P.S. What's the thing you keep telling yourself will settle down "after this week"? Hit reply and tell me.
