Reality TV is real. It’s also edited for drama, and we all know it. In this week’s episode of Find Your Freaks, I’m going solo to pick up a line from my interview with Danie Tidwell: people just really vibe with authenticity. I trace reality TV from Candid Camera to Love Island, then add AI avatars that can look and sound like us. Somewhere in there, “real” stopped being enough. Real means something exists. Authentic means it’s true to its original source. A toy car is real. You still can’t drive it. We talk about why watching someone be unapologetically themselves works as proof, why our imperfections are our superpower, and three things you can do about it that don’t involve copying me or anyone else. But underneath all of it is a bigger question: What are you polishing that people would trust more if you left the rough edges?
