Working in ministry means caring for people. But somewhere along the way, caring can turn into carrying. In this week’s episode of Find Your Freaks, I sat down with clergy coach, American Baptist minister, and author Margaret Marcuson to talk about what it actually takes for pastors to stay in ministry without losing themselves in the process. Margaret has spent more than twenty-five years working with pastors, and one of the things she made clear is that sustainable ministry isn’t simply about better time management. It’s about knowing what’s yours to carry and what isn’t. We talk about over-responsibility, why our family patterns can follow us into leadership, the guilt that can come when you finally set a boundary, and why stepping back sometimes gives other people the opportunity to grow. And yes, we talk about naps. But underneath all of it is a bigger question: How do you care deeply about the people you serve without making yourself responsible for everything?
